Educational Therapy works to resolve the underlying differences in how students' learn that show up as academic difficulties at school. NILD Educational Therapy is a wholistic, IDA Accredited program that uses targeted techniques in a one-on-one therapy setting designed around cognition, academics, perception, and emotion. The goal of NILD Educational Therapy is development of confident, independent learners.

cognition - reasoning, memory, evaluating
academics - translating skills to school
perception - how input from senses is processed by the brain
emotion - feelings, beliefs, temperment

TARGETED TUTORING

Sometimes students need help in a specific subject to help them catch up to grade level. Targeted tutoring starts with a view of where students are and continues with an individualized tutoring plan focused on foundational skills. Tutoring services draw on educational therapy and coaching techniques where appropriate and uses a mediated learning approach to help students discover knowledge on their own with expert Maven guidance.

EDUCATIONAL ASSESSMENT

Often, the first step in the process of formal assistance for a student is an Educational Assessment. The Learning Maven is certified to administer the Woodcock-Johnson IV® Tests of Achievement and Tests of Oral Language. Specific subtests are selected based on student needs and once testing is complete, a comprehensive report and conference are provided. The report can supplement other cognitive and behavioral assessments done by an educational psychologist in support of IEPs, 504 Plans and educational therapy.
